Key Areas

Chartered Director - Awarded in March 2003. This followed a review of my preceding three years experience as a Director by the professional standards committee of the Institute of Directors.  I had already taken and passed the Diploma in Company Direction examination, with distinction, in October 2002. In preparation for that examination I undertook four refresher courses which brought me up to date, particularly in the area of Corporate governance.
IOD Diploma in Company Direction 1992 -> 1994 This involved twelve sessions varying between one and three days. It was an excellent refresher and taught me a great  about British board practice which has stood me in good stead over the last three years. At the time there was no qualifying final examination which has been subsequently introduced.
Senior Executive Programme - Tektronix  1998 -> 1990 . This programme, which won the American Management award as the best of its kind, was spread over eight week long sessions near Portland, Oregon.
Advanced Programme for Directors Honeywell 1976 -> 1978 This was a series of  week long sessions in Exeter, New Hampshire and was taught by Harvard faculty.
Executive Programme Honeywell 1972 ->1974. This was a series of week long seminars which were shared with General Motors and GE. They dealt in turn with the individual, the team, the organisation and then the organisation with its sector.
Chartered Engineer - FIMech Eng  1965. This involved the study of management subjects in additional to the technical qualifications required.
